Remote Learning

DFE guidance states that schools should “Develop remote education so that it is integrated into school curriculum planning: Remote education may need to be an essential component in the delivery of the school curriculum for some pupils, alongside classroom teaching, or in the case of a local lockdown. All schools are therefore expected to plan to ensure any pupils educated at home for some of the time are given the support they need to master the curriculum and so make good progress.”

In the event of any form of isolation and loss of learning caused by Coronavirus, parents/carers should understand that engagement in remote home education is now compulsory, as is the expectation that our school makes this provision available and accessible. However, it is important to note that if your child(ren) are themselves too ill then they should not be expected to engage in remote home education until they are feeling better.

At East Park we have set out our Remote Learning Offer in our policy that you can read below.

What our families think of remote learning

“Going well and Alex finds it easy to follow!” Year 6 parent

“Enya being learner of the week, children being acknowledged that they have actually done the work. Thank you great first week” Year 5 parent

“Alice has enjoyed all of her work this week. It has kept her busy and we appreciate how hard school has worked to make sure she still gets good quality learning” Year 4 parent

“Having the live lessons means Logan can still have some kind of routine.” Year 3 parent

“The videos are clear, and being able to pause them is great, especially if he’s not understanding everything, being able to pause gives me time to explain things further for him. But we can access the lesson videos easily and if I’m not sure on anything I’m able to email the year group teachers no problem.” Year 2 parent

“Sienna is happy to still be able to see her teachers and friends on a daily basis. The packs are fab and video lessons are a big help to support the books. Sienna is really enjoying them. Thank you” Year 1 parent

“The lessons give more structure to the day. My child is more willing to do the learning when it’s alongside her teacher, rather than mommy doing it!” Reception parent

“Luca has loved the videos from nursery and I am so pleased how well is has engaged in these lessons and listened to the stories so thank you all.” Nursery parent

"Our daughter Darcie joined Reception class 2 in September 2020, during a very strange time! We chose East Park for various reasons, including your wonderful (usual) wraparound care and proximity to home. Understandably, we were extremely nervous and anxious about how Darcie would settle in to school without being able to visit or spend time with her teachers and new friends beforehand. However, we received excellent communication from the school office staff, Mr Ruane and the Early Years team. This helped to alleviate some of the apprehension, and we felt more confident that Darcie would be absolutely fine!

Four months on, there are a few things we would like you to know...

Firstly, we’d like to express our gratitude to Mr Ruane and Miss Roden – they have been so supportive and Darcie’s development since joining school has improved vastly. She amazes us every day with a new skill!

Secondly, we’d like to praise your approach to the education of the children throughout this pandemic. Your anticipation of the schools closing in January and preparing ahead of time to ensure key-worker children were able to return to school was outstanding. We were extremely impressed, as we know other schools were not so quick to react to the Government’s announcement.

Thirdly, even though Darcie is at school, we have been accessing the home-learning resources provided and using them to do extra activities at home. Darcie is used to very long days (full-time private nursery care followed by wraparound care at East Park), so is struggling with the lack of routine and boredom when she is at home. Mr Ruane’s home-learning provision is fantastic and is helping us to entertain Darcie.

Finally, we would like to thank you for all your hard work in general. The staff are so polite, friendly and helpful, even if they do not know us by name! The enthusiasm and dedication to the children is admirable. The communication we receive is outstanding and we know we made the correct choice of school!

You are clearly working extremely hard to adhere to the Covid regulations, to ensure the safety of the staff and children. Unfortunately, some parents do not appear to understand what is expected of them whilst on school grounds, as they need to be constantly reminded – this must be very difficult and frustrating, when your efforts are so clear!

When the situation with the pandemic improves, we look forward to getting to know everyone properly and becoming more involved with school activities. The comments contained within this correspondence have also been expressed to Ofsted – we believe the authorities need to know what an exceptional job you are all doing.

You have our full permission to circulate these comments to all of the staff at East Park (if you consider it appropriate) – we sincerely hope this provides a boost at this difficult time!"
