Computing

Subject Overview

At East Park Academy, we strive to deliver a high-quality computing curriculum which allows our pupils to be curious learners that recognise the significance of digital technology in their everyday lives. We explicitly teach pupils the skills and knowledge they need to become creative, digitally literate, computational thinkers. We provide opportunities for children to become explorers of their learning through problem solving, testing, hypothesising, and evaluating. With the increasing advances in digital technology, it is imperative that our children equip themselves with these skills and knowledge to be successful in the modern world and for their future careers.

The computing curriculum is delivered through three domains: Computer Science, Information Technology and Digital Literacy. The three domains are then filtered into four key concepts that underpin the computing curriculum: Computing Systems and Networks, Programming, Creating Media and Data Handling. Children will develop their computing skills and knowledge through a variety of ‘plugged’ (with computers) and ‘unplugged’ activities (without computers). Both work in conjunction with one another to provide children with a deep understanding of the key concepts. The key concepts will be built upon year upon year, progressively building the children’s computing knowledge and skills.
