Online Safety Reminder for Parents and Carers

We would like to remind all parents and carers about the importance of monitoring children’s use of social media and messaging apps outside of school.

Recently, we have become aware of concerns linked to the use of group chats and messaging platforms. We are working closely with families to address any issues raised and to ensure that all children understand the importance of respectful and responsible online behaviour.

We encourage parents and carers to regularly check their child’s devices, apps and group chats and to have open conversations about staying safe online, treating others with kindness and reporting anything that makes them feel uncomfortable or upset.

Please remember that the minimum age requirement for WhatsApp is 13 years old. Many apps also include parental controls and privacy settings which can help manage who children communicate with online.

Thank you for your continued support in helping us keep all children safe both in and out of school.

Online safety app alert: 'Monkey' - App stores also offer - (Monkey Cool & Monkey Chat)
Some of you may remember when the online app 'Monkey' surfaced during the pandemic. It's an app that can be downloaded to connect to total strangers through video calls. You do have to be 18yrs+ but as with most apps online, there are no age verification checks.
Some of our education colleagues have raised concerns that our children and young people are using this app.
Please see link below with information on for staff and parents/carers:
